Dear Fellow Residents of Luceti,

Wouldn't it be entertaining to put on some Games here in Luceti? Not that the Cultural Fair wasn't amusing, or any of the other activities going on here -- but true gladiatorial games. The pitting of one creature against another! Think of the thrill and drama and the release that goes along with that sort of entertainment! And here in Luceti we are ideally suited for a very exciting Games indeed.

Who would you sponsor or volunteer for this entertainment? Or would it all be...

[There is a pause here.]

Pokey-mans? I find human beings MUCH more interesting to watch, personally.

For a moment, sitting upstairs at her (Katniss') desk, the journal open next to her textbooks, where she'd been doing math - for a moment, Prim forgets how to breathe. It's such a casual statement. And Effie had to have watched the Games - she'd been Twelve's escort. Prim knew that. And she knew Effie was Capitol.

But somehow, living in the same house, it hadn't occurred to her that Effie had watched the Games with enjoyment. She'd found them entertaining. She hadn't been watching people she'd known (sure, she met them, brought them to the Capitol, but - ), hadn't been watching people she'd loved. She had wanted to watch.

Effie was actually suggesting they put on Games again, for no reason other than that she wanted amusement. ]

No. You shouldn't - it wouldn't be. [ That's said quietly, but firmly.

Katniss. The Games. Effie would probably want her sister to play, if she actually tried to set this up.

No. ]

[Guess who else has heard too much about these Games?]

Those "games" are not coming here. Ever!

Why should such a place already mired in fighting and battle need such a thing?

What kind of safety procedures would you be utilizing?

...This isn't the same thing, is it? Where a group of people fight and die until only one remains?

[A bloody good fight and the heady adrenaline rush that accompanies it is something he enjoys nearly on par with carnal pleasures. But he has undergone his share of gauntlets and trials and is far from willing to battle for a gleeful, hungry audience. Aaah, you're talking about competitive battles, right? Like in the coliseum! True fighters gathering from all over to test their strength against one another and when all's said and done, they congratulate each other on their skills.

Effie. Babe. You really have got to work on your people skills.

Ha. But can hue-mans fly? Having some pony gladiators would be pretty awesome.

[She snickers. It does sound pretty thrilling, assuming it's not an actual death match.]

That all depends on how these games would be staged, though. Are we talking stuff like jousting or something more intense?

[She does love competition, but after that last draft... eek.]

I wouldn't call something so base and violent as that a 'game', nor would I think the activity appropriate for using a volunteer based system of electing who participated.

[Sabriel hasn't heard of anything so crude, not in the time she's from in any case and that's still a good few decades before a good portion of the village. It's hard to keep the disbelief out of her voice but she tries.]

Do such...'games' happen often in your world?

And what would you be offering as a prize?

Sharpe didn't bother to say a word on the damned books. There were enough other people doing that for him. Besides, he wasn't so certain he could echo their righteous indignation. After all, the idea itself wasn't abhorrent to him. The difference, he supposed, was that he understood it to be damn likely abhorrent to everyone else. And so -- as little as he cared for the woman who'd forced herself into this somewhat-kinda-not-really-maybe happy home, the soldier saw fit to rap his knuckles sharply against her bedroom door.

"Miss Trinket," broad Yorkshire vowels grumbled through the wood. "A word?"
