Dear Fellow Residents of Luceti,

Wouldn't it be entertaining to put on some Games here in Luceti? Not that the Cultural Fair wasn't amusing, or any of the other activities going on here -- but true gladiatorial games. The pitting of one creature against another! Think of the thrill and drama and the release that goes along with that sort of entertainment! And here in Luceti we are ideally suited for a very exciting Games indeed.

Who would you sponsor or volunteer for this entertainment? Or would it all be...

[There is a pause here.]

Pokey-mans? I find human beings MUCH more interesting to watch, personally.

Yes! Many people do. It is a proud and ancient tradition where I come from.

Eeeh, pretty sure it's a tradition in a lot of countries. It's just the word "gladiatorial's" a bit of a buzzword.

In that case, plenty of people would be interested, I should think!

[This is said brightly enough.]

What's wrong with 'gladiatorial'?

Mmm, to put this lamely, 90% of civilized societies I know of [so everyone except the damn ninjas] don't have their competitions to be the death in the way the word implies. That's all.

[He says this in the most airy, blase tone he can muster]

Well...it doesn't HAVE to be to the death. The pokeymans don't DIE, do they?

[Because that would be TERRIBLE.]

[And a warm sort of smile spreads on his face, in spite of himself] Usually, they go until the partners give up or are knocked out.

From the Lightning, you mean.

[This might be the extent of Effie's pokemon knowledge.]

Lightning-? [Pfft.] Or ice, water, fire, you name it. There's actually over fifteen different "elements" they can have, so the abilities are often way beyond your imagination.

[This is very promising indeed!]

Can ANYONE own a Pokeyman?

Nope. They're native to this one world, and only four of them have ever been born in Luceti. [A beat and] Plus, they're a big responsibility.

I did see a little yellow one, once. He didn't seem to be too much trouble!

[And had been furry and adorable to boot.]

[He...? Yellow? He racks his brain, but then dismisses it. His immediate thought is Pikachu, but both the ones in Luceti are female. Not that you'd know at a glance]

That's probably because they were trained. Even the smallest pokemon is probably several times stronger than a normal human, and if their trainer doesn't have them in order, they've got a lot of potential to be very dangerous.

[IS he seriously parroting Green here]

[Like she'd know the difference between a he-Pikachu and a she-Pikachu.]

I see. So a dangerous one MIGHT be of interest to someone, say, trying to organize some Games?

Mm, see, there's where another problem here comes in. Like I said, there's probably less than fifty in Lueti. [Actually, it might be less than thirty now, with how many people go home] And every last one [except one, he guesses] is a valued comrade of their respective trainer. I doubt too many of them would consent to giving them up for something.

That said, I'm sure a normal battle wouldn't be impossible to organize.

Why in that case, we should organize one! A public match, so everyone can marvel at the power of the pokeymans!

[It's such a brilliantly marvelous idea.]

[Hah] You know, I do think that'd be pretty cool. The last time that happened it was a sight to behold, and even if we don't have the same caliber of trainer here, I'm sure another one could happen if we can get some agreeing parties.

I could help organize the promotional materials...

[She CAN promote, can Effie. Stir up a crowd. Or at least keep a grim, silent crowd in line with lots of Peacekeepers behind her and a hovercraft or two filled with soldiers lying in wait.]

Promotional? Oh man, are we going viral now? [In spite of himself, he's now enjoying this conversation, and his tone reflects it. He's sure a lot of other people are objecting to her ans various ways, like he initially found what she said odd but. This is fun, at least.

How else are supposed to get the crowds excited with anticipation? Of COURSE it must go viral!

[She's excited, too. This is her job, back home. Her life.]

Mmm, well then Effie-san, on the off chance I have a battle coming up or one of my friends does and they're willing to make a show of it, I'll be sure to give you a call for the advertisement side.

[She sputters a bit:] Yes! This book! [Because would that Sharpe fellow and Katniss appreciate this young man coming around the house? Probably not. They appreciated nothing that she did.]
