Fourth Dispatch: It's Not What You Think. Voice.

Dear Fellow Residents of Luceti,

Wouldn't it be entertaining to put on some Games here in Luceti? Not that the Cultural Fair wasn't amusing, or any of the other activities going on here -- but true gladiatorial games. The pitting of one creature against another! Think of the thrill and drama and the release that goes along with that sort of entertainment! And here in Luceti we are ideally suited for a very exciting Games indeed.

Who would you sponsor or volunteer for this entertainment? Or would it all be...

[There is a pause here.]

Pokey-mans? I find human beings MUCH more interesting to watch, personally.

"Oh, I don't know," she answered breezily. "You always seem pleased with them."

"You're not wrong. But your Games don't seem so popular. It's like people aren't a fan of gladiators. Too many lions, maybe?"

Wow. He's so cute when he smiles like that. "Do we even HAVE lions here?"

Derail. Derail.

Jack had lived a long time knowing that he was cute all the time. Without even trying. It was his most cherished superpower.

"Mountain lions. Not nearly as impressive. They don't even get manes."

So adorable.

"Would you tame one for me as a furry pet?"

Now that question was just ridiculous. And still derailing. Look over here, Jack. Don't look at my bloodthirsty gladiatorial project.

Jack had done many things in his life. Taming wild animals did not number among them. Sure, he had briefly been King of the Apes, but those apes were all Fables and sentient.

"... why, Effie, do you need a mountain lion?"

Probably to protect her from all the people who now wanted to hunt her down and kill her.

"Have you never heard of accessorizing with animals?"

"Heard of? Sure. Ever wanted to know about it? Can't say I have. But if you're wanting to play dress up with animals, why not settle for a nice dog?"

"Could it be a big dog? That bites people I don't like?"

"One that bites people who don't like your game?"

"No! No...

The ones who want to hunt me down." She says this very calmly. A dog is actually quite a sensible idea.

"How many want to hunt you down?" He rather liked Effie and if she was in danger of being hurt by rather ordinary folk, he'd gladly defend her himself.

"Three or four," she guessed. Maybe there were even more than that. She should never have made the suggestion in the way she did. "I assure you, it's all under control. I've the Malnosso looking out for me, for one. And this dog..."

She would have to see about the dog soon.

"Effie, babe. The Malnosso don't look out for anyone. But me, Jack Horner? I'll take care of anyone that decides to hunt you." When it came to someone he could get consistent sex out of, he could be very protective. It would be endearing if it wasn't so terrible. "But I have absolutely no idea where you'd get a dog."

He could be her Peacekeeper, then. It was comforting but Effie wasn't about to let on about that.

"Very well -- a suitable arrangement." As for the dog: "Aren't there just....dogs? Around?"

Weren't dogs things that were just sort of there?

"Somebody probably already owns them."

"This is so inconvenient."

"It's a sad life we lead here in Luceti, Effie. We could always find you a nice wolf cub. Maybe you'll luck out and it won't chew off your hand when it's full grown."

"Ugh. Even YOU, Jack?" Never in her life has she had so much talk of physical violence against herself. Not ever.

"Hey, I like your hands. They're small and adorable. That was a cautionary warning!"

Well, combined with the compliments, that was...alright. "Fine. No wolf cubs, then. I shall request a dog from the Malnosso."

It would have to smell good, never poop indoors, and not shed all over her gorgeous wardrobe.

"A big one," she decided. "That likes me."

"Does that mean you'll be going on a mission, Miss Trinkett?" Jack remembered a time when one could simply ask for things from Bil and receive them. That time had passed and now Jack was doing his duty. He would extend his help in procuring a dog, but he was saving up for a television.

"I've been thinking of a mission for quite a while," she admitted. "It seems like a good way to get a feel for the Organization. Plus, I want to start saving some points."

"Good thinking. What sort do you think you'd do?"

"Not combat, of course. Something organizational, maybe. Administrative."
