Fourth Dispatch: It's Not What You Think. Voice.

Dear Fellow Residents of Luceti,

Wouldn't it be entertaining to put on some Games here in Luceti? Not that the Cultural Fair wasn't amusing, or any of the other activities going on here -- but true gladiatorial games. The pitting of one creature against another! Think of the thrill and drama and the release that goes along with that sort of entertainment! And here in Luceti we are ideally suited for a very exciting Games indeed.

Who would you sponsor or volunteer for this entertainment? Or would it all be...

[There is a pause here.]

Pokey-mans? I find human beings MUCH more interesting to watch, personally.

[Wow, he just teased an older woman successfully.

He's awesome]
Alright then, the book it is! I'll be calling on your later, Effie-san!

Some of them are. They see humans as playthings too.

[Huh, he's impressed, he hadn't actually expected her to show up.

What she's wearing though...]

Guess I should have specified that comfortable usually means something you can run in.

[Because he's wearing loose jogging pants and a t-shirt, his bow slung over his shoulder.]

How charmingly voyeuristic.

Too much of a coward to play the game yourself?

Jack had done many things in his life. Taming wild animals did not number among them. Sure, he had briefly been King of the Apes, but those apes were all Fables and sentient.

"... why, Effie, do you need a mountain lion?"

How?

You're talking about volunteering people for these games, other people, like they don't get a choice in the matter. Like... like dogs being volunteered for fighting rings.

[Clint just smirks and jerks his thumb back towards one of the training rooms.]

You wanted a demonstration.

Circus performer off-duty actually.

Unless you like getting nice clothes covered in sweat and dirt.

Ah.. yes, I know of that. I've read about all kinds of sports, actually.. [ Not that reading about it is anything like experiencing it, but that's just how disconnected she is from reality. ] I guess they are a kind of "games" too. Although.. I didn't know people got hurt from that..

A sensitive spot indeed. It was difficult to be an officer when your officer's pay was your sole source of income -- bloody hell, the mandatory mess fee ate into your profit. All the other expected trappings. Swords -- and sword maintenance. Decent lodgings. No, officers were meant to be wealthy in their own right long before they received their pay.

"You and what coffers, eh?"
